Domenico di Bandino, Benvenuto da Imola e il manoscritto Vat. Lat. 9964

Lucan, ‹recollecte›, Domenico di Bandino, Benvenuto da Imola, Vat. Lat. 9964, Italian humanismAbstract
Up to now, the Vat. Lat. 9964 was supposed to contain only the text of Domenicodi Bandino’s ‹recollecte Lucani›. A thorough analysis of the manuscript, however, revealed its composite nature, as it is the result of the combination of two different commentaries on Lucan. Only the first part of the manuscript (ff. 1r – 59v) transmits Bandino’s commentary, that covers just a quarter of the ‹Bellum Civile› (from 1,1, to3,497); the second part (ff. 60r – 71v) is another testimony (albeit partial, from 1,667to 2,319) of Benvenuto da Imola’s ‹recollecte Lucani›. The codex is likely to be a sortof anthology of commentaries on a significant section of Lucan’s poem, though it isnot easy to understand specifically on which one. The discovery of another manuscript of Benvenuto’s ‹recollecte› allows new insights into their circulation at the early stages of Italian humanism.
