The article deals with the twelfth-century text entitled Disputatio cuiusdam iusti cum Deo, a terse dialogue between God and a human person enraptured in a vision. Transmitted in nine manuscripts, the text sets out prerequisites for the communication between man and God, treats the relationship between divine experience and prayer, and discusses the interrelation between worldly responsibility and transcendent reward. The current article seeks to present this largely unknown text in the form of a critical edition and translation, to illuminate several details regarding its history, and not least to briefly undertake an interpretation of its contents.
