Abstract

Pascale Bourgain: About ill-read historians: lack of chance or direction error.

Among the historical texts that don’t remain in a large number of copies, some were never intended to spread away far from their initial place; some lost interest because they talked about defeated peoples and suffered from damnatio memoriae. Others, because of their length, were neglected in favour of shorter ones. Some were not finished and edited by their authors; or the choice of the personage to whom had been offered the book was not efficient. Finally, the formation of acknowledged historical corpus lessens the chances of works that they don’t include.
