Joel Varela Rodríguez: Some unknown sources in the sermons of the Codex Calixtinus
In this article, I make known the existence of some unidentified sources in several sermons included in Book I of the so-called Codex Calixtinus and examine the text of Gregory the Great used by the authors of the sermons Quia natalem (f. 65v), Audistis, fratres (f. 94r) and Festivitatem electionis (f. 98r). I conclude that Audistis, fratres depends on a different recension of Gregory’s text, probably because the sermons were composed in different periods. On the other hand, some unknown sources of the sermons Vigiliae noctis (f. 6v) and, mainly, Sollempnitatem hodiernam (f. 72r) show a striking proximity to some texts elaborated in the theological school of Laon between the end of the eleventh and the beginning of the twelfth century.
